GM customers have driven 1 billion hands-free miles with Super Cruise Driver Assistance Technology

2026-04-28

As of this week, General Motors customers have driven 1 billion hands-free miles with Super Cruise1 driver assistance technology, which would equal nearly 2,100 trips to the moon and back. This marks a major milestone in GM’s journey from today’s advanced driver assistance to future autonomous capabilities and shows customers’ affinity and trust in the system across one billion moments.

Nearly 750,000 Super Cruise-enabled vehicles across 23 models in North America have contributed to this achievement, generating large-scale, real-world learning that’s helping GM accelerate its autonomous roadmap.

This 1 billion miles driven hands-free by our customers is just the start," said Rashed Haq, VP of Vehicle Autonomy. “Super Cruise is the cornerstone of GM’s autonomous roadmap, from today’s hands-free features to eyes-off, starting with the Escalade IQ in 2028. That, combined with more than a century of manufacturing expertise, puts GM at the forefront to bring automated driving to millions of retail customers at all price points.

Super Cruise is the starting point for a roadmap that expands the capabilities of our advanced driver assistance systems. In 2028, we’ll launch eyes-off driving on the Cadillac ESCALADE IQ. We are doing something unique in the autonomous space, which is developing a system for personal vehicles that we can deploy on both ICE vehicles and EVs, and scale across multiple brands and price points.

Expanding access to advanced driving features remains a priority at GM, which is why Super Cruise is available across a broad range of vehicles, from the accessible Equinox EV to the premium Silverado. In fact, GM now offers the most affordable way to go hands-free in America with the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt, ensuring that cutting-edge technology is within reach for more drivers than ever.

Customers Continue Choosing Super Cruise

Customer behavior shows that when drivers experience Super Cruise, they choose to make it part of everyday driving.

  • In the last 12 months, GM customers used Super Cruise for 7.1 million hours across 28.7 million trips.

  • In the past year alone, drivers logged nearly half a billion Super Cruise-engaged miles — well over a million miles per day.

  • On average, when Super Cruise is engaged, customers spend roughly 24 minutes hands-free per trip.

  • Over 50% of Super Cruise drivers use the technology on a weekly basis; nearly 85% engage Super Cruise at least once a month.

With consistent Super Cruise usage comes strong subscription performance and renewals. Super Cruise subscriptions are on pace to exceed 850,000 by the end of the year, with an attach rate post 3-year pre-paid subscription remaining in the 30-40% range.

Over the past year, Super Cruise equipped vehicle population grew about 70%, and daily Super Cruise users grew roughly 80%, showing that when drivers get Super Cruise they actually use it.

A Foundation for the Next Generation of GM Technology

Super Cruise is a foundational technology for GM’s next generation of autonomous capabilities.

Across 1 billion miles driven hands-free, Super Cruise has experienced a broad spectrum of real-world conditions:

  • Unique geography

  • Varying weather conditions

  • Disparate traffic patterns and road types

  • An expansive range of road-user behaviors

This diverse real-world data creates a powerful feedback loop to help Super Cruise continually adapt and improve. As Super Cruise usage grows, the system learns from every scenario it encounters, which helps continuously improve GM’s models and lays the groundwork for future autonomous features.

Last month, our next-generation automated technology, trained on millions of real-world miles and validated in simulation, began supervised public-road testing on limited access highways in California and Michigan. More than 200 development vehicles will gradually enter live traffic, each with a trained test driver ready to take control at any time. This supervised testing is a key milestone in GM’s disciplined, step-by-step approach to bringing automated driving technology to personal vehicles at scale.

A Platform Built on Real-World Scale

The continued growth of this ecosystem, including the customer base, hands-free miles traveled, and the insights we’re gaining to train our AI models, will help pave the way for future eyes-off technology. One billion Super Cruise miles is both a milestone and a starting point. With every real-world, hands-free mile, GM:

  • Enhances the robustness of current Super Cruise features

  • Informs the design and validation of next-generation autonomous capabilities

  • And strengthens GM’s integrated software and services platform, anchored by OnStar.

As GM enters the next phase of autonomous innovation with future eyes-off technology, our approach remains grounded in real-world scale, customer trust, and broad deployment across our lineup — supported by a billion miles of hands-free customer miles.
